Port Aransas Vacation Rental

We spent a week in Port Aransas Texas.  This little beach town felt miles and miles away from everything (in a good way).  Even though it is just a short drive from Corpus Christi.

We rented a vacation home through Clear Stay and Port A Escapes.  The house was at 1120 South Station Street also known as the Shell House.  It was perfect for us.  Having one place to call home for several nights in a row makes family travel less stressful.

I thought we needed to be right by the Beach, but was wrong.  The house is only 0.8 miles from the beach and you can walk it, however, just pay 12 dollars for a beach parking permit and you can drive right to your spot on the beach – much simpler.  Don’t worry if it is “walking distance.”

Very close to shops and restaurants.  Gelato at Coffee Wave Port A TexasCoffee Waves, a coffee and gelato shop is about 3 blocks away.   We went there every afternoon for gelato and to enjoy the free Wi-Fi.

The grocery and fresh seafood shops are also a quick drive away. In addition, two convenience stores are within about 4 blocks of the house.

Outdoor space

The private pool was certainly the highlight of the outdoor space.  We spent hours playing and swimming in the pool.   It is not heated, so depending on the time of year the water could be a bit cool.

The deck went around 3 sides of the house.  There is ample patio furniture both on the deck and around the pool.  During the day the deck always seemed to have a sunny spot or a shady spot which ever you wanted.

The master suite is upstairs.  It had it’s own full bath with tub and shower.  A large closet for all your suitcases, plus a nice chest of drawers to keep your clothes in.  A queen sized bed with two night stands with lamps.  A ceiling fan and a view of the pool out the window.  Enjoy a TV with dvd player and satellite TV while in the room.  The only improvement I can think of would be to put a king sized bed in that room.

There are two bedrooms on the main level.  One has a double bed and closet.  The other has two single beds plus a trundle bed – three children could sleep in there.  Both rooms have ceiling fans.

Main Level

Besides the two bedrooms, the main level includes living room, dining room, a bathroom and the kitchen.  The bathroom is near the two bedrooms and has a shower.

The kitchen is just off the dining room.  It is a galley kitchen and has everything your need.  It is cozy for two people to be cooking in there.  You will find a dishwasher, stove with oven, microwave and coffee maker in the kitchen as well.  There are plenty of plates and silverware.  Knives are plentiful, but not very sharp – bring your own knives if you plant on doing a lot of cooking.

The living room and dining room are one large room at the front of the house.  A television with satellite TV and a dvd player are available for your use.  there are two sofas and a coffee table.  The dining table will comfortably seat six.

The basement is a more utilitarian level of the home.  There you will find a washer and dryer – a bit older but worked great.  A Foosball table, air hockey table and a ping pong table.  A great place to kids to hangout if it happens to rain while you are there.  There is an interior staircase from the basement to the main level, it is steep.  We kept the door locked and use the nice stairs on the deck to get between levels.

The house has central air and heat.  The neighborhood felt very safe and was clean.  There is no Wi-Fi at the house, I was disappointed at first, however, it was kind of nice to be “offline” for awhile and there is free Wi-Fi just a few blocks away at the coffee shop.

The check-in with Port A Escapes was simple.  I was bit concerned when we were checking in – the person who was helping me didn’t know where the house was located.  So someone else gave me directions – not by coming out from the backroom to explain it to me, buy by hollering the directions from the other room.  We found the house fine, just not that extra bit of customer service I was expecting.

When we went to turn in the keys, the lady working was perfectly delightful.  She asked how we enjoyed our stay and wished us a safe journey home.  We would stay in this home again, we just loved everything about it.

Here is a video tour of the home – enjoy!
