Jolly Green Giant Statue Blue Earth Minnesota

We love roadside attractions.  Any excuse to take a break from the road and get out of the car.  The Jolly Green Giant Statue in Blue Earth Minnesota is perfect stop.  It is right off the Interstate and there is plenty of sidewalk and grass to run around of two people near the jolly green giant

The statue is 55 feet tall and has been watching over the Interstate since 1978 .  He was originally in the North side rest area, but was moved to the current location in 1979.  I understand they event put a scarf on the statue in the winter.

The giant stands as a tribute to the area’s production of food for the Green Giant Company.  The area still grows and cans peas and beans.

Check out this short video of the statue

This is certainly worth the few minutes to stop and enjoy this piece of Americana.  It is right on par with Carhenge, The Corn Palace,  The World’s largest ball of twine and all the other great roadside attractions we have yet to visit.  It is great places like this that make family travel fun!
